REFRESH PROJECT MEETING - SUNDAY 18TH MAY AT 12.15PM

You are warmly invited to come to St Matthew’s at 12.15pm on Sunday 18th May to find out more about the Refresh Project.

The Parish Centre is now 30 years old and is well used by many people in the community who enjoy parties, exercise groups, ballet classes and the Community Lunch, among other things.   The aim of the Refresh Project is to refresh the Parish Centre, to improve the carbon footprint and make it suitable for the next 30 years of use.  We launched the project at our Garden Party in September and raised enough money to engage experts to look at options.

The initial stage of technical preparation for the Refresh Project is now complete and we are delighted to say that the architect will be at the meeting to outline the menu of options that has been drawn up.

So please come along.  We would love to hear what you think and ideas you may have for the future use of the building.  The work that eventually gets done will depend on the money we can raise, but at this stage we want to make sure that as many people as possible are involved in the discussions and understand the scope of what may be possible.

Refreshments will be served from 12 noon so please arrive early so we can make a prompt start at 12.15.  See you there!

Keep up to date by visiting our Refresh page.

PARISH AWAY DAY - 4TH OCTOBER

A day at Cuddesdon to think about the parish vision.

REVISION OF ELECTORAL ROLL

This year the Church of England does one of its periodic complete revisions of the electoral roll. This is essentially the church’s voting body.

The revisions are to make sure that the membership list is up to date and people who have left do not remain on it. Part of the way the parish share is calculated is on the number of people on the electoral roll.

To be on the roll you must:

•    Be 16 or over

•    Be baptised

•    Be a member of the Church of England OR a Church in communion with it OR a Church which subscribes to the doctrine of the Holy Trinity

•    EITHER live in the parish OR be worshipping habitually at the church for the last 6 months. (habitually is not exactly defined but most churches work on the basis of once a month at least).

If you are already on the roll you must reapply, your name will not go forward automatically.

There is a simple form at the back of church to complete if you would like to be on the roll or re-enrol and you fulfil the conditions mentioned above.

This must be done a week before the APCM which this year is on Sunday May 11th. Any questions to Jenni or Katharine vis the church office.

COMMUNITY LUNCH VOLUNTEER NEEDED!

As our Community Lunch grows in popularity, we need one more volunteer to help out once a month, from 12 - 2pm. We're a lovely, friendly group and you get a free lunch! For more information please contact Carolyn via the church office.

ALTERNATIVE WORKSPACE

Laura is hoping to open a weekly "Workspace" cafe on a Monday afternoon in the Parish Centre from 2pm-5:15pm. The idea is to provide an alternative workspace for students and those who work from home. There has been a positive response from the local community who seem interested in this idea!

In order to make this happen, we would need at least one volunteer to accompany Laura each week to help set up, serve drinks, wash up, and pack down . The more people we can have on the rota, the less frequently you'd need to serve! If you're interested and available to help, please could you contact Laura via the church office. Thank you in advance for considering

ST.MATTHEW'S EVENT WHATSAPP

If you would like to be part of a WhatsApp group that connects all the Events happening at St. Matthew's then please let Laura know via the church office. We'd love for this to involve everyone that is involved in organising activities at St. Matthew's so that we can continue to connect and grow the life of the church.

VACANCIES AT CAP

Debt Coach 8-16 hours a week: an enthusiastic and competent person who will join the small staff team to provide free debt advice to the people in the city. This will be a hands on, client facing position bringing God’s love and hope to those in unmanageable debt. The debt coach will be expected to engage effectively with families and individuals in the local community and to provide the first line of support through a professional service. Training for the role will be given.

Mobiliser 8-16 hours a week: someone to fill an exciting new post as a Mobiliser to share and promote the vision of CAP in the city. Suiting someone who loves meeting people, this outward facing communications role will involve building relationships with current and new referral agencies as well as our partner churches and encouraging them to send their clients to benefit from what we provide. We are also wanting to develop our work within schools (especially through CAP Money Coaching and Life Skills) both for the parents and carers, and the student themselves. Skills and experience dealing with the Press and Media, or in social media and website design are desirable. Previous experience helpful but not required. Training will be given.

We are open to two people taking on one of these roles each or for one person to take on both roles. Deadline for applications is 1159pm on Sunday 4th May 2025. Interviews w/c 12th May 2025

If you would like a Job Description or have any questions, please also contact Andrew Johnson.
