I'm new to church

What happens at a St Matthew's service?

This varies with the services through each month.

Every service consists of a welcome, a talk, singing of Christian songs and some prayer time. Children and young people can go out to groups a short way into the service.

The first and thrid Sundays are Communion Services when you will be offered bread and wine if you would like to take this. These symbolise Jesus' love for each one of us.

What is the length of the service?

Usually around an hour.

Can l come if it's a communion service?

Definitely yes!

If you are not yet a member of a Christian church do come up and allow us to briefly pray for you.

lt's all done very discreetly but it could change your life.

Are children welcome?

All our services are family friendly with groups for children and you people. Children join in the first songs and a "Together time" then leave the church for their own groups in the adjoining Parsh Centre.

Occassionally we have All Age services where everyone is invited to stay from 0 to over 100!

What do you do after the service?

You could go home. But we'd rather you joined us for coffee or tea at the side of the church.

We realise that that could be quite daunting so please speak to one of the Welcomers - they wear a 'Welcomer' badge and are usually by the entrance to the church.

What should l wear?

We generally wear what we are comfortable in.

What car parking facilities are available?

There are often free 2 hour spaces in Whitehouse Road alongside the Sports Ground. Some people park to the South of Hinksey Park, which is a ten minute walk to the church.

Can I be a Christian without going to church?

Yes – but you will be a much better one and your Christian experience will be so much more meaningful, sharper and helpful if you meet up regularly with other like-minded people.

But if it’s our church you have difficulty with come and tell us. We may be able to put it right. If not we can help you find the right church for you.
